ADULT AFTERNOON PROGRAM: FROM THE LOOKOUT: MEMORIES OF PENINSULA STATE PARK’S SUMMER CAMP FOR GIRLS

Join us at the library on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM for the first adult afternoon program of the season! For every summer from 1916 to 1948, Camp Meenahga, on the picturesque shoreline of Lake Michigan in Door County’s Peninsula State Park, hosted young girls and women from across the United States and Canada. From July to September each year, campers slept in canvas tents, told stories beside a massive stone fireplace, swam, canoed, sailed, hiked, rode horses, and watched the sunset from the Lookout, a gazebo with a spectacular view of the waters of Green Bay.  Join Kathleen Harris as she discusses life at Camp Meenahga in its glory days.

Kathleen Harris was a naturalist at Peninsula State Park for almost 30 years.  She is currently an educator at the Ephraim Historical Foundation in Door County, Wisconsin.  She is the author of the title, From the Lookout: Memories of Peninsula State Park’s Summer Camp for Girls.  Her book will be available for sale on the day of the program.  Check or cash only please.

The hour-long program will take place in the first floor Shattuck Community Room at the Neenah Public Library. All interested individuals are welcome to attend this free event. If accommodations are needed to attend, please contact the library at least 24 hours in advance of the program. For more information, please contact the reference desk by phone: 920-886-6315, e-mail: [email protected] or visit our website, www.neenahlibrary.org.
