It took 53 years before Evangeline Bergstrom even gave any thought to establishing a collection of paperweights.
From the time she was 10 years old, she had been fascinated with a glass paperweight owned by her grandmother, but it disappeared after her death.
It was not until a serendipitous event occurred in Evangeline’s later years that something similar surfaced again.
Evangeline did not collect and was not prone to making impromptu visits to antique shows, but while in Florida in March of 1935, she decided to attend one in St. Petersburg.
There it was, a paperweight very similar to the one she played with as a child was for sale.
It started a collection, a book, a world renowned reputation and a museum that has continued to evolve to explore glass art.

Join the discussion and program with Jan Smith, Executive Director at Neenah Public Library to learn more about this world class museum in your own backyard.

Then follow her to Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass for a summer solstice evening of dancing presented by Fox Valley Fire Arts and Fox Valley Academy of Arts.
